With Matt Mooney officially becoming a grad transfer, teams are fighting for his services. Who will ultimately get his signature?

Transfers are having a huge impact on the sport of college basketball. Look no further than each participant from this past Final Four. All of them had impact players who originally started on different teams. That includes Eric Paschall, who transferred in from Fordham University, who resides in the mid-major A-10 Conference.

Other teams have hopes of getting the same kind of impact from other mid-major stars, with Matt Mooney from South Dakota as a prime target. He’s already transferred before, leaving Air Force after his freshman season.

The 6’3 guard went to the Coyotes in the Summit League, where he exploded as a scorer. Mooney averaged 11.3 ppg more in his sophomore year as a full-time starter and put up 18.7 ppg this past season. He led South Dakota to a 26-9 record, the best record for the program after becoming a Division-1 team. If it wasn’t for superstar Mike Daum from South Dakota State, Mooney would’ve been easily been the Summit League Player of the Year.

After the season was over, the rising senior decided to check out other options. And after South Dakota’s Head Coach moved on to Utah State, Mooney made it official that he was leaving for another team.

Now that it’s official he’s gone, it’s time to think about where he might end up. And currently, five teams are in the running.

It’s an interesting list, with each team representing a different conference. There are pros and cons each team listed, with some having a better chance than others. What I’ll do is try to rank the five squads in terms of the best fit for Mooney.
