North Carolina Basketball: 2017-18 Grades for the Tar Heels
Seventh Woods: People were excited for this guy just based on name. Seventh was ranked 48th in the country, eighth at his position and number one in the state of South Carolina. He was a combo guard two seasons ago who got lost in a veteran led team that was determined to win the National Championship.
Woods then fell to some injuries this season. He was borderline being mentioned based on the amount of games he played. Woods has the potential because he was a highly recruited player in a small North Carolina class.
The second-year guard wasn’t totally lost this season. Woods was looked at as a normal rotation guy at the beginning of the season. He played double-digit minutes in each of the first four games. Woods scored in three out of four games. He then cut his time cut in half, suffered some injuries and lost out on regular minutes.
Woods only scored nine points for the rest of the season. He did see 10 minutes in the ACC Championship, but failed to get a shot up. Woods also played in six minutes of the second round game against Texas A&M, but that was a blowout by the second half.
He’s a six-foot-two guard who was recruited as a guy who could play anywhere in the back court. He did dish out four assists against Michigan at the end of November. Woods did average about an assist per game. He’ll be a junior next season and the Tar Heels are going to be in need of a point guard.
