North Carolina Basketball: 2017-18 Grades for the Tar Heels
Cameron Johnson: He was a grad transfer in the off-season and chose North Carolina. Cam Johnson played at Pitt for three seasons, but remains with two years of eligibility left. His fourth season was with the Tar Heels. Johnson missed the first chunk of the regular season, but once he returned to action, he became a regular scorer.
The Tar Heels stuck with Brooks in the starting lineup for a while after Johnson was cleared to play. That changed when the team lost three-in-a-row. They were no longer going to succeed playing big. Johnson was obviously one of their top five players and he needed to be on the court as much as possible.
He remained in double-digits for a second season in a row. Johnson averaged the third most points for the Tar Heels this season at 12.4. He managed to drop 47 three-pointers in just 26 games this season. The grad transfer did a decent job rebounding and passing the ball. He fit into the Carolina system very well as he started to develop a great drive toward the end of the season.
Johnson recently announced he will be back for a fifth year. The NCAA was already granting him another season in college, but there was still some question on whether he was going to turn pro. He had a surgery in the offseason and will be ready for the opener in November.
