North Carolina Basketball: 2017-18 Grades for the Tar Heels
Andrew Platek: The beat continues for guys who got lost in this year’s recruiting class. Jalek Felton led the way in 2017. As a guard with the last name Felton, playing for North Carolina, he seemed a perfect fit. They were hoping he was the point guard of the future with Platek as his back-court mate.
Platek was only a three-star, but there was some hope as he started his career at Chapel Hill. He was outside the top-200, but inside the top-50 for position. Playing time was up for grabs off the bench. It was really anyone’s game.
The freshman shared the top guard spot off the bench with Brandon Robinson. Robinson averaged more minutes, but Platek scored more points. It wasn’t a total loss for the freshman. He had spurts of playing consecutive games with double-digit minutes. Roy Williams really wanted to give him more playing time.
He had some nice assist numbers at the beginning of the season. They tailed off near the middle and only had two since February 8. Platek will have a chance at making an impact with very little experience coming off the bench.
