NCAA Basketball: 2018 AAU Circuit Adidas Gauntlet Preview
By Bryan Mauro
Key Players in the event
Matthew Hurt- D1 Minnesota
Hurt is a talented player, who plays on the best team on the Adidas Gauntlet. He has a couple of blue blood schools in his final list in Kansas and Kentucky. Minnesota is an interesting team to watch for Hurt in his recruitment. It is the hometown school as well as the school that his brother Michael attends. Hurt would be far and away the best recruit that the Richard Pitino and the Gophers would have ever landed. Kansas appears to be the favorite to land Hurt.
Hurt is a long and athletic wing. He has a multi-faceted offensive game, he can shoot from anywhere on the floor and is a load inside. Hurt is the best player on this tour and the next player is a distant second. He’s also going to get into a college weight and nutrition program and fill out his frame. Once that happens the sky is the limit for Hurt and his overall talent. He is a future NBA player, and if everything goes correctly he could only be in College for a year.
Christian Brown-Upward Stars
Brown is one of the better scorers in his entire class. Wherever he chooses to go to College he is going to be the focal point of the offense from day one. He is a native of South Carolina who can score from all three levels and has a game that is groomed to be a wing both in college and at the next level. Brown holds offers from most teams in power conferences, but it looks like Tom Crean and Georgia Bulldogs are the favorites to land his services.
Ashton Hagans- Game Elite Gold
Hagans is a Kentucky commit who is a triple-double waiting to happen. He is the one player in the entire class who can add that to their resume. Hagans is a perfect fit for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats. It is expected that Hagans is only going to remain in College for one year, and Kentucky loves players who are only going to play in college for one year.
Hagans also has the crazy combination of being a point guard who rebounds like a forward, can pass the ball from anywhere on the floor, and has the take a team on my back mentality while on the offensive end. He can pull up for a three, or drive the lane and score at will. Coach Cal and the Kentucky staff can get really creative on offense with Hagans, as he can play multiple positions without losing anything.
