There might not be a sport with a greater group of coaches than NCAA Basketball. Who are the best of the very best from those still in the game?

The coaches from the Final Four this past season represented four very different narratives at that point in their careers.

There’s Jay Wright from Villanova, who after winning the 2016 national championship, won another to put him in the conversation of the very best in the sport. Jon Beilein from Michigan has been quietly putting together a resume of his own, rising up the ranks himself.

This wasn’t the first Final Four appearance for Bruce Weber, who has the impressive feat of taking two different programs to that elusive point. It was the first for Loyola-Chicago’s Porter Moser, who quite honestly could’ve easily been on the hot seat had the Ramblers performed in the middle of the pack once again in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Although the Final Four was stacked with quality coaches, it was still missing some of the greatest who’ve ever done it. But would they all be ranked at the very top? Or have some of the young guns like Wright already passed them up?

That’s the task I’ve decided to take upon, one that as expected proved to be incredibly difficult. I had to balance out the career accomplishments of those who’ve been in the game the longest, as well as overcoming the recency bias by those who’ve come onto the scene as of late. And lastly, providing a good balance between the power conferences and the mid-majors.

Along with several honorable mentions, here are my top 25 NCAA Basketball head coaches who are still active.

*Rick Pitino formally of Louisville is technically active, but currently without a school to coach. Would’ve been top-15 on this list
