Mark Turgeon has been a head coach for going on 20 seasons. Here are the 10 key players that have made him a success.

Since starting coaching in Division-1 Basketball nearly two decades ago, Mark Turgeon has had success everywhere he’s gone. He started out with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in 1998 and after two seasons went to Wichita State.

Gregg Marshall will deservedly get credit for bringing the Shockers to where they are today. However, Turgeon’s previous reign set him up very well, with a 26-9 season record and a Sweet Sixteen appearance with Wichita State in 2006.

Turgeon decided to move up from the Missouri Valley to the Big 12 Conference, coaching for Texas A&M. He was just there for four seasons, but it was one of the greatest eras of Aggies Basketball. The program went to the NCAA Tournament all four times (three of them to the Round of 32), and never having less than 24 total wins in a year.

His final and current stop has been the Maryland Terrapins, spanning three seasons within the ACC before going into the Big 12, where he’s seen his best years yet. He made another Sweet Sixteen in 2016, with two more trips to the Big Dance as well.

When it comes to the players Turgeon has coached, it hasn’t been a “who’s who” of college or future NBA stars, but rather a collection of solid players who together made productive seasons as a unit.

For this list, I chose the 10 top players from his college coaching career from the four programs he coached. Because it’s about what happened it college, Texas A&M’s DeAndre Jordan will be excluded from the rankings, despite his NBA achievements.
