NCAA Basketball: Top 10 Players to Play for Mark Turgeon
4. Terrell Stoglin – Maryland Terrapins (2011-12)
Career stats: 16.4 ppg 2.4 rpg 2.6 apg
Coaching in the ACC is no easy task, considering the great coaches that already reside in the league. Turgeon’s first season with Maryland didn’t go great, with just a 17-15 record. The one bright spot was Stoglin, who in his sophomore season averaged 21.6 ppg while leading the ACC in scoring.
He had 11 games of at least 25 points, including a career-high 33 at Miami. Without him, the Terrapins would’ve been at the bottom of the league – not a good impression for a first-year head coach.
Stoglin honestly had a great shot at being No. 1 on this list had he stayed all four years with the program. But after he was facing a one-year suspension for violating school policies, the sophomore decided to go pro instead. It was an unfortunate end to his career, with scoring records potentially in his sight.
3. Dez Wells – Maryland Terrapins (2012-2015)
Career stats: 13.2 ppg 4.8 rpg 2.3 apg
Not too many players averaged at least 15.0 ppg in two separate power conferences, but Wells helped big-time with the transitioning for the program with his play.
The 6’5 guard had a big senior season to help lead Maryland in the program’s first official season in the Big Ten, showcasing his improved scoring and rebounding. He was leaving right during another star was making waves.
