10. Dakota Mathias – Purdue Boilermakers (2015-18)

Career stats: 8.1 ppg 3.1 rpg 2.9 apg

This was a hard decision between the four-year Mathias and 2018 First Team All-Big Ten guard Carsen Edwards. The senior guard from this past season gets the edge over the one-year wonder, as Mathias’ development over the years personified what Painter’s career has been about.

Over the past two seasons, he’s been inserted as the team’s starting point guard, leading them in assists. Mathias was already known for his capable defense, but the offense picked up as well, averaging a career-high 12.0 ppg in his final year. His leadership and steady head as the lead ball handler helped the Boilermakers win so many games.

9. Isaac Haas – Purdue Boilermakers (2015-2018)

Career stats: 11.2 ppg 4.6 rpg 0.5 apg

In his first three seasons, Haas played less than 20 minutes a game splitting time between starting and being on the bench. He also had to share time with frontcourt players that will be featured later on the list, making getting on the court even more difficult.

As a full-time starter, Haas put up his best numbers yet. He averaged 14.7 ppg and 5.7 rpg. At 7’2 and 300-pounds, his size at times was used against him on the defensive end, but Haas became a plus-defender when things were done.

If it wasn’t for his elbow injury in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, Painter might have had his first Elite Eight appearance.
