Notre Dame Basketball: Top 15 Players to Play for Head Coach Mike Brey
Mike Brey has been a Division-1 Head Coach for 22 full seasons. Here are the 15 players who have helped him become a success.
For the last 17 seasons, the University of Notre Dame has been led by head coach Mike Brey. He amassed 502 total wins, winning 2/3 of his games. And while he’s yet to make that elusive Final Four appearance, Brey has a few trips to the Elite Eight, showing off his ability to win in March.
Under Brey, the Fighting Irish has been not only on top of the Big East during their best days, they’ve also been one of the best in the newly made ACC. The team would’ve made the Big Dance this past season, had it not been for injuries to their key players.
Before arriving at South Bend, Brey spent five seasons at the University of Delaware. He won 99 games in total, with a pair of tickets punched to the Big Dance. The Blue Hens had three straight 20+ win seasons under Brey before he departed for Notre Dame.
This is my continuation of ranking the best players under the best active head coaches. Brey ranked No. 17 on my list, thanks to his complete work at both Notre Dame and Delaware. He’s had some special players along the way, with some winning conference awards and others even getting All-American nods.
This piece concerns the best players for Brey, with many Fighting Irish and even a couple of Blue Hens involved. I based the rankings off of their accomplishments, as well as value to both the coach and the program at the time.
