Mid-majors are an integral part of NCAA basketball. As the 2018-19 season approaches, here is a look at five teams that could be the best mid-majors.

Each season, mid-majors represent some of the best moments in NCAA Basketball. Power conferences may receive the most headlines throughout the year but mid-majors always take center stage during championship week in my mind due to how high the stakes are. As a Bracketologist, placing mid-major teams is extremely difficult because of having to balance how good a team is compared to how good their resume is.

Mid-majors have struggled to receive at-large bids in recent seasons but some of the best programs are bringing back plenty of talent. At some point, the NCAA Tournament committee will realize that mid-majors belong and maybe this is that year. While a few of the top mid-majors are mentioned throughout the offseason, not all of them get the credit they deserve either because they missed the Big Dance this past season or were overshadowed by the March run of Loyola-Chicago. Regardless, I want to use this article to bring light to who some of the top mid-majors might be next season.

Before getting into the list, I want to stress that only conferences that I deem to be mid-majors are eligible to be mentioned. This means that members of the traditionally multi-bid leagues (American, ACC, Big Ten, Big East, SEC, Pac-12, Big 12, Mountain West, and Atlantic 10) are excluded. In addition, I left out traditional powers of the WCC (Gonzaga, St. Mary’s, BYU).

With that being said, here are my top five mid-majors heading into 2018-19.
