Memphis Basketball: Examining the Tigers 2018 recruiting class
Antwaan Jones lead the Tigers’ 2018 newcomers
Memphis has a total of seven newcomers this year, including Boyce. The Tigers 2018 class has been ranked anywhere from No. 19 to 37. They are not in ESPN’s Top-40 most recent rankings which was last updated in May.
The incoming class is ranked No. 19 in Rivals.com, No. 37 by Scout and No. 27 by 247 Sports.
Antwaan Jones: The 6-foot-6 wing is the Tigers top -rated recruit. Jones, a consensus top-100 player, possesses excellent size and can really score. Overall, he can do a little bit of everything while also possessing the quickness to be very good on the defensive end. Jones does need to work on his ball-handling and improve his assertiveness.
Jones originally committed to Texas A&M.
Alex Lomax: The strong 5-foot-11 point guard has the ability to effect a game on both ends of the floor. Lomax possesses excellent handles and has a very good feel for the game. He also has a high-basketball IQ and is a very good floor general.
Rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN, Lomax originally committed to Wichita State. He finished his high school career with over 1,700 points along with 800 assists and 800 rebounds.
Tyler Harris: The athletic 5-foot-9 speedster can flat out shoot and score the basketball. Harris, a four-star recruit, has nasty handles and is a good distributor.
2018 Tennessee’s MR. AAA Basketball led the city of Memphis with 30.3 points while also averaging 6.1 dimes. He finished his prep career with over 2,500 points.
Isaiah Maurice: The 6-10 big man is a strong finisher around the rim and possesses solid low post moves. He is a good athlete and will battle hard on the boards. Maurice also has the ability to spread the defense with his shooting.
Maurice spent two years at Kansas State before transferring to South Plains College (TX) where he helped the Texans win the NJCAA DI national tittle this past season. The junior forward/ center averaged 12.5 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 62.0% from the field and 48.5% from beyond the arc in 2017-18. He is ranked as the 50th best junior college prospect.
Jayden Hardaway: The 6-foot-5 two-star recruit is a wiry athlete who can flat out shoot. He played at IMG Academy in 2017-18. Prior to last season, he played for his father at Memphis East and on the AAU circuit.
David Wingett: The 6-foot-7 left-handed wing has a smooth stroke and is an excellent scorer. While he is superb in catch and shoot situations, he is equally adept shooting off the dribble. Last season, Wingett played at Bull City Prep (Durham, NC) where he averaged 25.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.
