NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Top 10 Junior College Transfers for 2018-19
Jared Wilson-Frame was one of the top Junior College transfers in 2017-18. Which newcomers will have the biggest impact on the following season?
When it comes to gathering talent, there are two ways of doing so. One is the traditional route of going after high school players and developing them over the course of a few years.
The other has become a tradition, getting players from other schools, better known as transfers. It could be grad transfers or those who have to sit out a year, but programs would get ready-made talent. That’s been the way for teams to avoid a down year after losing talent from the season prior.
The transfers have become a huge phenomenon this past decade, but there’s another kind of transfer that doesn’t get talked about as much.
Junior College (JUCO) transfers are players who after high school, go to a post-secondary institution for one or two years. This could be because of academic issues from high school that would’ve made them ineligible for their college of choice.
Another reason is that the player wasn’t happy with their college options, and decided to go the JUCO route to get better as a basketball player. They can get their body in better shape, and round out their individual game. For some guys, it’s actually the better route to go rather than settling for a less than ideal situation.
There are hundreds of examples of Junior College transfers having a huge impact on their respective teams. Here’s a list of the best from the class of 2017.
