Big East Basketball: Top 5 rising sophomores for 2018-19
2. Jamorko Pickett, Georgetown
Speaking of Georgetown, Jamorko Pickett is another excellent rising sophomore. Unlike Blair, though, Pickett was a top-100 recruit out of high school who joined the Hoyas will high expectations. And he did not disappoint. A starter in 28 of the team’s 30 games this past season, Pickett immediately became one of the go-to-players for the team. Over the course of the season, Pickett averaged 9.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while playing 27.5 minutes per game.
As the tertiary scoring option on the team behind Marcus Derrickson and Jessie Govan, Pickett was reasonably efficient. However, there is definitely room to grow in this regard. Pickett shot 36.3% from the field in total while splashing home 35.7% of his 3-point attempts. With more experience, these numbers should both inch closer to the 40% mark. With this scoring ability at 6-foot-7, Pickett could be a really good player in the Big East over the next few seasons.
Now that Derrickson is gone, Pickett should take on a bigger role as the secondary scorer on the team. Derrickson averaged 15.7 points per game last season so Pickett will have to significantly pick up his scoring to match that.
