NCAA Basketball: 9 players primed for breakout seasons in 2018-19
By Brian Rauf
Ky Bowman, PG, Boston College
Jerome Robinson received most of the accolades for Boston College last season (first-team All-ACC) and was taken with the No. 13 overall pick by the Clippers, but I thought Bowman was actually their most important player last season. Maybe it’s the hair, I don’t know.
Bowman tested NBA Draft waters himself in the offseason before opting to return to school but got quality feedback from teams. If he can make some small refinements to his game and become more efficient, he’s expected to be a first-round pick.
His all-around game is superb (17.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 4.7 apg) and, while the Eagles saw their chances of competing near the top of the ACC go out the door with Robinson, Bowman will be one of the most dangerous players in the conference.
While having Robinson would obviously be a major boost for the program, his departure makes Bowman the unquestioned go-to guy on this roster. Given the opportunities he’ll receive and the way he is expected to develop under head coach Jim Christian, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Bowman land on an All-American team at the end of the year.
