Highly-touted freshmen are often the biggest stars in the college basketball landscape. These prospects are expected to have a major impact in the Big 12.

The Big 12 has seen a number of elite freshmen prospects pass through during their one-and-done seasons, including three top-16 picks (Trae Young, Mo Bamba, Zhaire Smith) in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Though the conference has traditionally been dominated by seniors, young players are set to play a very significant role in the Big 12 race in 2018-19.

Kansas welcomes a top-five recruiting class headlined by McDonald’s All-Americans Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes while Texas has a top-10 class. Both schools are expecting their key freshmen to make a major impact, but other schools are also counting on major contributions from newcomers.

Now, not all of these players are going to be one-and-done prospects, though some certainly have those aspirations. Some may not be immediate starters, either, but are extremely talented and will be impact players. Here are the five most talented freshmen entering the Big 12.
