C Isaiah Chandler – Wichita, KS

A big man from Wichita State’s backyard, Isaiah “Poor Bear” Chandler presents as an intriguing recruit due to his size and versatility. Originally a New Mexico commit, Chandler elected to reopen his commitment in April. Shortly thereafter, Chandler committed to Wichita State on May 17. Standing at 6-foot-8 and 240 pounds, Chandler makes up for his slight lack of height for the center position with tremendous strength.

Defensively, he is nearly impossible to move in the paint. Although not a great shot-blocker, Chandler affects shots in the paint with his size. He contests attempts around the basket without fouling well and often forces opponents into poor shots. When he does block shots, Chandler does a nice job keeping the ball in play rather than swatting attempts out of bounds.

He also uses his strength to his advantage on the glass. Chandler clears a ton of space with his box outs and therefore creates opportunities for himself and his teammates to gather rebounds. is an excellent team rebounder and that is an underrated trait for big men. In addition, Chandler does a solid job cleaning up on the offensive glass and finishing second-chance opportunities.

An excellent screener, Chandler has the ability to be a solid rim-runner as well as a potential threat in the pick-and-pop. He is still developing as a shooter but has solid touch all the way out to 3-point range. He runs the floor rather well and can finish through contact with relative ease in the paint.
