Western Kentucky basketball has high expectations for 2018-19. With Taevion Hollingworth leading the way, the Hilltoppers have a guard to be reckoned with.

The Conference USA has some of the best under-the-radar talents in the country. When it comes to Western Kentucky basketball, Taveion Hollingsworth looks to be a key cog on a team that should dominate the Conference USA. The Hilltoppers have the best roster from top to bottom in this league and could be on the top of their conference for the next couple of years.

When current head coach Rick Stansbury took over the Hilltopper program, his No. 1 goal was to rebuild a program that had experienced success both in the CUSA and in the NCAA tournament in their history. His first order of business was to go get a floor general at point guard. His choice was Lexington native Taveion Hollingsworth.

As a freshman last year, Hollingsworth was tremendous but still has plenty to prove. This year, the Tops have a loaded roster and tons of talent to surround the rising sophomore. After one year in Coach Stansbury’s system, the point guard should spread his wings and help make the offense fly. A season ago, the Hilltoppers thought they would be able to utilize the abilities of big man Mitchell Robinson.

While Robinson never panned out, Coach Stansbury was able to secure the commitment of highly ranked five-star center Charles Bassey heading into this year. This will only help Hollingsworth and the rest of the offense gel.
