Pierre Sarr was essentially dismissed from Monmouth Basketball this past week. Here’s why that’s an issue for the program and Head Coach King Rice.

Monmouth basketball stole the countries hearts two seasons ago when they made an appearance in the NCAA tournament. That was the year the Hawks introduced everyone to the bench mob. The bench mob was the players on the bench who would dance in unison and have rituals for every aspect of the game. Coach King Rice and the Hawks proved they belonged and could play some basketball as well. While they lost the game, they were a tough out in the NCAA tournament. No matter the fans opinion on the bench mob, everyone will remember Monmouth.

The Hawks experienced a tough year last year. That tough year on the court was followed by an extremely tough offseason. At the beginning of the offseason Micah Seaborn, the best all-around player for the Hawks, announced that he would graduate and transfer to a new program. The next part is where it gets strange. Coach Rice pulled the scholarship of forward Pierre Sarr.

The coach can pull a player’s scholarship whenever he sees fit. The weird part here is that the scholarship was pulled a month ago, on June 11th. Sarr, who was slated to be a Senior is now without a school to attend for the final year of his college life. Forget about Basketball, the senior forward cannot afford to go to school without the scholarship. The Hawks administration and coach have said the senior forward did not live up to the expectations set forth by the basketball program.
