Virginia Tech Basketball: Analyzing the Hokies’ rotation for 2018-19
Point Guard
Minutes Allocation (40 total): Justin Robinson (30) and Wabissa Bebe (10)
One of the better point guards in the country last season was Robinson, who lead the Hokies with 14.0 ppg and 5.6 apg. It’s been a steady climb in overall production for the rising senior, responsible for the sixth-best shooting team in terms of field goal percentage.
Robinson is a great shooter in his own right, with a shooting clip of 46-40-78. The 6’1 guard is more of a pass-first distributor but that 32-point game against NC State showed his potential as a scorer if needed.
The primary backup and part-time starter is gone in Wilson, which gives Bede more opportunity at a bigger role. As a freshman, he played in 28 games around eight minutes a night. He only took 51 total shots but was highly efficient from the field and from three-point range. His nine turnovers in 232 minutes also bode well for his ball-handling abilities and to lead the offense overall.
Virginia Tech is a preseason top-20 team with a shot at the Final Four. And with Robinson on track to have his best season yet, it’s likely that he’ll get 30+ minutes again and play even more in the primetime games. Bede will have a chance to start at point for the 2019-20 season but will have to settle for coming off the bench behind the senior leader.
