Oregon Basketball: Breaking down the 2018 recruiting class for the Ducks
Oregon basketball missed the NCAA Tournament last year. Yet, with an elite recruiting class coming in to join returners, the Ducks should dance in 2018-19.
After making back-to-back runs to the (at least) the Elite Eight in the prior two years, Oregon basketball missed the NCAA Tournament this past season. While this was obviously disappointing for the fanbase, do not expect the Ducks to stay down for long. In fact, even though the program has to say goodbye to several players this offseason, many people (including myself) are projecting Oregon to be a preseason top-25 team heading into this upcoming campaign. Why is that, you ask? Well, let’s just say head coach Dana Altman had a pretty good year on the recruiting trail.
With five top-100 recruits joining the Ducks for next season, there will be plenty of talent coming in to offset the losses of players such as Troy Brown, MiKyle McIntosh, and Elijah Brown. In addition, several key pieces from last season’s team are also returning. Leading scorer and playmaker, rising junior Payton Pritchard, will be at the forefront of this but rising sophomores Victor Bailey and Kenny Wooten are also outstanding players.
Although the Ducks may be inexperienced in 2018-19, there will be plenty of talent on the roster. For some coaches, this could be difficult to handle but Coach Altman is pretty darn good when it comes to managing his players. With the luxury of having so many talented players on his roster, possibly the biggest challenge facing Altman heading into this year will be finding a consistent rotation.
Regardless, let’s jump into breaking down each of Oregon’s incoming recruits for this campaign.
