Big East Basketball: Creating the conference’s All-NBA bracket for 2018
By Brian Foley
Big East Basketball has sent several supremely skilled alumni into the NBA ranks. Which college has the best collection of NBA-level talent?
Let’s not kid ourselves – it’s a slow period for basketball right now. NBA free agency moves have mostly subsided, while college basketball still has over three months until the start of the season. But here we are, the humble basketball junkie, still looking for something to tide us over. Enter the Big East Basketball All-NBA bracket.
I scoured every NBA and G-League roster with one goal – to find the five best NBA or NBA-adjacent players from all 10 Big East schools, and determine which program has the best starting five among the NBA ranks right now.
Yes, this is dumb. And no, it isn’t perfect. Dwyane Wade is not on an NBA roster right now, and he was just offered a three-year deal by a Chinese club. But he still finished last season with the Miami Heat, so as far as this exercise is concerned, he is still in the NBA.
Because not every school has five active NBA players, I was forced to dip into the G-League to fill out the rosters. Many programs have players spread all across the world, but I wanted to limit the teams to NBA/G-League players as much as possible. So if a player spent any time with a G-League squad last year, and is from a current Big East school, then welcome to the squad. I also included players who participated in this year’s Summer League.
