Wright State Basketball: In-Depth Look at Sophomore Center Loudon Love
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for Love in 2018-2019
As previously mentioned there is not much that Love cannot do on a basketball court. One thing that anyone who follows Wright State closely should keep an eye on is how the sophomore shoots free throws this year. Last season the center was a dreadful free throw shooter, making just over half of his attempts. With the way Love plays the game, he can expect to be fouled a great deal. If the Raiders want the maximize their value this season, they will need Love to become a much better free throw shooter.
While the sophomore center is working on his free throws, one underrated aspect of his game that he may also be working on is getting his teammates involved. Love averaged over 1 assist per game last year, and for a player with his size and skill set that is impressive. It is a coach’s dream to have a big man who can pass. It helps expand the offense and by working the ball inside and then outside, Wright State will always be able to hunt for the open shot. The center is going to improve on those numbers this year, especially as opposing teams start to shut off his entry into the paint.
The sophomore center is going to make a run at the conference player of the year. The Horizon League freshman of the year is getting better and is well on his way to becoming a superstar in the league. Coach Nagy is going to feed Love the ball early and often on the offensive end of the floor.
The scoring and rebounding averages will ultimately go up for the sophomore center. If Love improves on his numbers this year, he will no longer be an unknown player. He may finally get the recognition he deserves.
