Trace Ramsey – Crown Point, IN

Forward | 6-foot-7 | 200 lbs | No. 270 overall

A solid shooter with plenty of size, Trace Ramsey is an interesting recruit. He might not have one “elite” skill at this point in time but he projects well because of his balanced game. Standing at 6-foot-7 with above-average athleticism, Ramsey projects as a multi-positional player who can operate on both ends of the floor anywhere from 2-through-4. In addition, he has a smooth shooting stroke, can score in the post, and is unafraid of diving after loose balls.

After going under-the-radar in high school, Ramsey spent this last season at a postgraduate prep school, where he garnered the attention of the Maryland program by averaging 17 points and six rebounds per game. Although not rated extremely highly by recruiting services, he does bring some much-needed skills to the college game. As already alluded to, size and shooting are vital skills for a forward at the Big Ten level and Ramsey has both of those.

It is unlikely that Ramsey will find a spot in the rotation as a freshman but the Terps will need shooting. With Kevin Huerter and Justin Jackson gone, they lost a couple of big wings. Could Ramsey fill that role in due time if he continues to develop as a shooter? Maybe but that does not seem likely as a freshman.
