Former five-star Kentucky Wildcats commit DJ Jeffries reopened his recruitment on Monday, beginning a mad dash for his services.
D.J. Jeffries can and will be a number of things during his college days.
A Wildcat, however, will not be among them.
Jeffries took to Twitter on Monday to announce his decommitment from Kentucky. He cited education and his athletic development as the reasons for breaking his promise to join John Calipari’s program in 2019.
After careful consideration prayer and countless hours of consulting with my family I decided to reopen recruitment it was a hard decision but I am confident that taking my time to choose the right school for me to better myself educationally and athletically is the right choice pic.twitter.com/Pqc4QlVqfd

The 6-foot-7 small forward is widely considered one of the top 20 prospects in the Class of 2019. He represented one of two five-star commitments in the class for Kentucky, along with guard Tyrese Maxey.
In all likelihood, the Wildcats will be fine. Sure, they’ll be reeling a little bit from this loss, but Calipari consistently recruits one of the top classes in the nation.
The real question revolves around Jefries’ future, still a year away.
Prior to his commitment to Kentucky, he was said to be eyeing two other SEC schools in particular: Alabama and Mississippi State.
Since his commitment came over four months ago, it’s possible that the runner-up schools have moved on. But when it comes to the services of a five-star recruit, a coach can always find room to spare.
Here’s where Jeffries may end up after his second recruiting go-around.
