Big East Basketball: Top 10 incoming impact freshmen for 2018-19
3. A.J. Reeves, Providence
Guard | 6-foot-5 | 180 lbs | No. 47 overall
Even though Providence returns a fair amount of talent from last season, they bring back just one double-digit scorer in Alpha Diallo. Due to this, a few players will need to emerge as potential go-to scorers. Of the two recruits committed in the 2018 class, shooting guard A.J. Reeves is the one who can fill up the bucket in a hurry. With a quick first step and range out to beyond the 3-point arc, Reeves should be able to step in and provide instant offense either as a starter or off of the bench.
While Reeves is rated slightly lower than his counterpart David Duke (mentioned earlier), the advantage in this list is that Reeves brings much more consistent shooting to the table. Considering the Friars will have two capable playing point guards leading the way in Makai Ashton-Langford and Maliek White, placing shooters around the perimeter makes sense.
If Reeves is able to be a knockdown shooter from distance as a freshman, this would greatly help a team that shot the ball extremely poorly last season. In fact, only four power conference teams that made the NCAAT last year shot worse than Providence from 3-point range. With less overall offensive balance this year compared to last, players like Reeves will need to step up as shooters.
