If all goes according to plan, Memphis basketball could be in for a spectacular 2018-19 season. Here are few keys to watch for during the campaign.

With Wichita State and Cincinnati expected to experience down seasons, there looks to be a void atop the AAC this year. While there will obviously be several teams hoping to claim that spot, one of the programs with a good chance is Memphis basketball. The Tigers, who were competitive but not an NCAA Tournament team last season, return their four top scorers from a year ago and look to put the country on notice this time around.

In addition to the key returners, the program is bringing in a lot of new faces. At the forefront of this is Penny Hardaway, who was named the head coach at Memphis in March. The former Tigers’ college star is back at his former school and the fan base is hoping that he brings some of his winning magic. To lead off his first season at the helm, Coach Hardaway is also bringing in a ton of new recruits to represent the future of the program.

With all of these changes, Memphis is an extremely difficult team to project this season. Yet, thanks to the abundance of returning players and the infusion of talent from recruiting, Coach Hardaway will have a talented enough roster to make a run to the NCAA Tournament. Now, without further ado, let’s break down five areas of significance for the Tigers to focus on heading into this season.
