Providence Basketball: Analyzing the Friar’s 2018-19 rotation
Providence Basketball will have to replace three of the team’s top four scorers from last season. With a great recruiting class coming in, how will the minutes go for each Friar?
Last season was an up and down campaign that started off rocky for Providence Basketball. They first had to deal with the loss of their best big man, before dealing with more injuries in the non-conference which caused some early losses and trepidation about whether the Friars would make it back to the NCAA Tournament.
Once healthy and stable, the team made a late second-half run in the Big East and eventually made it to the Big Dance. It was the program’s 5th in a row, the longest streak in history.
On first observation, it looks like it won’t be a sixth time, considering that Providence loses three key senior players (Rodney Bullock, Kyron Cartwright, and Jalen Lindsey). That normally would spell doom but the injuries the Friars went through actually benefit them this time around, giving valuable experience for the returning role players. Emmitt Holt, who missed all of last season with an injury, is back and 100% healthy.
Coach Cooley also quietly brought in the second-best 2018 recruiting class in the Big East, including a pair of top-50 guards. With them coming into the fold, look for possibly double-digit
Friars playing in a competitive game.
The purpose of this piece is to project the average amount of minutes each eligible scholarship player will receive, using the traditional positions. Who’ll be the key guys for Providence Basketball next season?
