Oscar Tshiebwe is a fascinating prospect with endless potential. Which NCAA Basketball program will get to develop the class of 2019 big man?

There are plenty of stories regarding young athletes who take on the sport of basketball at a late stage. Another recent example is Oscar Tshiebwe, a native of Congo who started playing the game just a few years ago.

Ever since coming to the United States in 2015 to play basketball, the 6’9 big man became a surefire Division-1 prospect. His raw athleticism combined with a growing knowledge for the game makes him an intriguing player to watch down the road, making him a top-60 player in the 2019 recruiting class.

Currently playing for Kennedy Catholic out of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Tshiebwe’s stock rose considerably this summer in the Adidas Gauntlet AAU circuit. He was dominant against some of the best prospects out there, including outperforming James Wiseman – a top-5 recruit in the same class, in the same game.

Tshiebwe’s recruitment has started to pick up as he enters his senior season of high school. Just recently, he’s narrowed his list of college teams down to eight – West Virginia, Baylor, Ole Miss, Kansas, Illinois, Georgetown, Virginia, and Kentucky. It’s a diverse group of teams, including a couple of powerhouses, a pair of rebuilding programs and a few in between.

This piece will look at Tshiebwe and his potential fit with the eight finalists. It’ll be based on the projected rosters of those teams for the 2019-20 season and whether the big man will get immediate playing time, as well as that respective program’s prospects at winning.
