Class of 2019 top-100 prospect Terrence Shannon was supposed to help revitalize DePaul Basketball. With his sudden change of mind, where does this leave both sides?

Dave Leitao has a deep-rooted interest in DePaul University. He is currently in his second tenure as the head coach of the Blue Demon basketball program. This second stint with the Blue Demons has been nothing short of tumultuous. Aside from a few signature wins, DePaul is still trying to rise from the bottom of the daunting Big East conference.

Recently it appeared things might start to turn for the Big East’s lone Chicago school. That was until top 75 guard prospect Terrence Shannon announced his decomitment from the school on Sunday. Shannon becomes the second top 100 player to announce his intentions to move on from DePaul, joining 2018 decommit Tyger Campbell.

The latest news had to be shocking for Leitao and the rest of the Blue Demon faithful. Shannon just took a visit to the campus on August 7th and committed right away. While this is not uncommon for players to do this, the guard did commit after his first official visit. Each player is allowed a total of five official visits to the campus of their choice before making their decision. From the beginning, the decision just felt premature.

The Blue Demons needed this commitment to work for a lot of reasons. The coaching staff is trying to build up the once storied program again.  DePaul was once considered a power in the state of Illinois as they have been to 10 sweet 16’s in their history. Leitao is responsible for DePaul’s last NCAA tournament in the 2004 season. Since DePaul has made the move to the Big East from Conference USA is has been tough sledding.
