LSU Basketball is expected to have a breakout season in head coach Will Wade’s second season with the program. Here’s why that may result in an SEC championship.

For the second time in four seasons, LSU enters the college basketball season with expectations. Like, serious expectations.

It didn’t go so well for the Tigers last time as Ben Simmons couldn’t carry them to the NCAA Tournament, and that debacle ultimately led to the firing of former head coach Johnny Jones one year later.

Will Wade took over the program last season following Jones’ departure and has quickly put the program back on the right path as he has the Tigers poised to have the breakout year that never happened in 2015-16.

The SEC is expected to be as deep as ever and projects to be extremely strong at the top. Both of last season’s co-champions, Auburn and Tennessee, return virtually everyone while Kentucky has been dubbed the preseason No. 1 team in the country by many outlets. All three will be in the preseason top 10.

Yet LSU has the potential to finish higher than all three of them – and other quality teams like Florida and Mississippi State. Here’s why the Tigers can win their first SEC regular-season title since 2009:
