Several ACC Basketball players had outstanding performances during their teams August exhibition games. Here are 10 in particular who shined the best.
Three ACC teams got an early start to their 2018-19 campaign by using a NCAA rule that allows them to travel outside the US to play games in August. Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame were the schools that played international exhibitions this season.
UNC traveled to the Bahamas earlier this month. The Tar Heels played two exhibition games while in Nassau. The Heels defeated the Bahamas All-Stars 112-91 as six players scored in double figures. They then rolled to a 130-45 victory over StarSports Basketball Club. The trip marked the fourth time that UNC has played in the Bahamas under coach Roy Williams with the last trip occurring in 2014.
UNC shot the ball well and its defense was just as good in the exhibition tour. The Tar Heels made over 52% of their shots in both games and did not allow either opponents to shoot over 35%. They also dominated the boards, although turnovers were an issue.
Duke took a trip up north to Toronto and Montreal (Aug. 15-19). The Blue Devils went 3-0 during the exhibition slate, winning each game by at least 19 points. Duke defeated Ryerson University (86-67), University of Toronto (96-60) and McGill University (103-58).
Duke freshmen Cam Reddish and Tre Jones did not make the trip to Canada due to injuries. Reddish missed the trip due to a strain groin while Jones is deal with a hip issue.
Like UNC, Notre Dame made a trip to the Bahamas. The Fighting Irish went 3-0 on their tour of the Island (Aug. 8-12).
The Irish won each of the games by double digits. They handily won the first two games defeating IBA Elite (119-61) and NPBA All-Stars (111-34). and Bahamas All-Stars (75-65).
Freshman Prentiss Hubb and sophomore DJ Harvey did not play during the exhibition tour for Notre Dame. Hubb is coming off an ACL injury while Harvey is recovering from microfracture knee surgery.
