Having a great frontcourt is key to doing well in NCAA Basketball. Which teams have the best ones heading into the 2018-19 season?

In the evolving game of basketball, the perimeter players have been valued more and more, while the big men have been getting valued less and less. That’s been the case in the NBA and now in college as well.

Many teams are starting to use lineups with multiple point guards, as well as having three perimeter players on the court at the same time. An even better example is how “small ball” lineups are being incorporated, with some guards playing the “four-spot”, or what would traditionally be considered the power forward position.

That doesn’t mean though those big men aren’t important. Most of the top picks in the 2018 NBA Draft were frontcourt players, while the 2019 recruiting class is filled with bigs at the top.

The most recent Final Four participants is another example of what happens when a team has good depth and talent in the frontcourt. Cinderella Loyola-Chicago had Aundre Jackson and Cameron Krutwig man the paint for them, while Udoka Azubuike took on Duke’s future top-10 picks all by himself.

Moritz Wagner played a big part in Michigan advancing to the national title game, while Omari Spellman and Eric Paschall were great contributors for the champion Villanova Wildcats. It doesn’t even include the other teams whose frontcourts allowed them to have successful seasons as well.

That leaves us to the 2018-19 season. With the incoming freshmen settled on their respective schools as well as the transfers, the rosters are basically set. So let’s take a look at who has the best frontcourts for next season.
