Big East basketball is expected to experience a down season in 2018-19. Here is a look at some important questions facing the league heading into the year.

Now that the college basketball season is almost upon us (okay, I know we are still over two months away but I can hope!), it is time to take a deeper dive into some conferences that have questions to answer heading into the year. With regards to Big East basketball, it is hard to find a league with more question marks. From top to bottom, every single team in the conference seemingly lost at least one huge piece to their success from this past season and many lost more.

Because of this, 2018-19 is expected to be a down season for the entire conference. Yet, there are still several reasons to be excited for Big East basketball during this upcoming campaign. For starters, the league should be incredibly deep despite not having many “elite” teams. In fact, it seems possible that nine out of the 10 teams in the league could make a preseason argument for why they belong as a potential NCAA Tournament team (sorry DePaul).

Of course, the most likely situation is that the conference ends up sending 4-6 programs to the Big Dance but a bunch of them can at least point to a few potential reasons for success during the preseason. Due to this factor, it is nearly impossible to rank the Big East teams for this season. So, as the offseason continues to drone on, let’s take a look at five questions facing the league.
