Recruiting plays a vital role in the development of NCAA basketball programs. In regards to 2019 recruiting, there are a few programs off to hot starts.

Recruiting in NCAA basketball occurs around-the-clock. Regardless of whether or not teams are in the offseason or actually playing games, coaching staffs around the country are always focused on how they can recruit for the future of their programs in addition to just pushing their current rosters to their maximum capabilities. So, now that 2018 recruiting classes are set in stone (for the most part), coaches everywhere have started to turn their attention to the 2019 and 2020 high school classes.

In regards to this piece, I will be taking a look at 10 programs who have gotten off to hot starts in terms of securing commitments from the 2019 class. For clarification, I narrowed down this list by only considering programs who, to this point, are ahead of the game compared to their usual recruiting standards.

I say this to preface the idea that I have excluded programs that traditionally land classes ranked in the top-20 nationally because their hot starts are not unexpected. Of course, this is a bit subjective but I wanted to bring light to some programs that have surprised with elite recruiting classes so far.

Because of this, here are a few of the programs that I left off of this list because their high recruiting rankings so far are not out of the ordinary: Kentucky, UCLA, Villanova, North Carolina, Maryland, and Michigan. Now, without any further ado, let’s jump into 10 programs who have really gotten off to excellent starts.

Honorable Mention (no order): Oregon State, Purdue, Loyola-Chicago, Tennessee, Utah, Penn State, SMU, and Missouri State. (All recruiting rankings were found via 247Sports Composite.)
