Buffalo Basketball: Andre Allen becomes first recruit to commit to Bulls for 2019 class
Buffalo Basketball has picked up their first commitment for the 2019 recruiting class. It comes from the Junior College ranks in prospect Andre Allen.
Buffalo Bulls Head Coach Nate Oats has gotten his 2019 recruiting class off to a good start with a commitment from JUCO prospect Andre Allen on Sept. 1. Allen is the first player from the class of 2019 to commit to the Bulls. He is currently a sophomore at Arizona Western College.
Allen improved throughout his freshman campaign, helping lead Arizona Western to a 21-10 record in 2017-18. AWC won their second straight Region I championship, but once again fell in the District title game. If the Matadors had upset Salt Lake CC, they would have went to the NJCAA DI Tournament.
Allen averaged 10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds for the season as he shot 56.0% from the field as well as 27.3% from beyond the arc. He scored in double figures, topping the 20 point plateau twice, in 15 of the 31 games he appeared while also producing three double-doubles. The Los Angeles native picked up his play at the end of the year, racking up one double-double and tallying double-figures in four of his last seven contests.
His best game of the season came against Scottsdale on Feb. 21. In that game, Allen posted 20 points and 12 rebounds, with five coming on the offensive boards five, and two blocks in that game. He made 6 of 12 shots from the field and 8 of 11 free throws.
The 6-foot-8 power forward is a versatile athlete with a lot of potential to grow due to a nice skill set and excellent feel for the game per Anthony Ray of Arizona Preps.
According to Verbal Commits the 2-star prospect selected the Bulls over offers from several high and mid-major schools.
If Allen does indeed join the Bulls in 2019-20, he will be the ninth junior college transfer to play under Oats. Several of the JUCO transfers have enjoyed enormous success at UB like current players Jeremy Harris and Dontay Caruthers.
