Iowa State Basketball’s coaching staff has been busy putting together the finishing touches to its 2019 recruiting class while also looking forward to future years.

2019 prospect Luke Anderson committed to Iowa State on Sept. 2. Anderson, a three-star recruit, decided that ISU was the place for him after he visited the Ames campus per the Des Moines Register.

Anderson received his scholarship from coach Steve Prohm last August and Cyclones had kept in touch with him ever since. This is one of the reasons that he chose the Cyclones.

“I really like their program. Their coaches are really cool,” Anderson told Rivals. “Their coaches and I have been talking for the longest. They were my first high-major offer. I’ve been building a relationship (with them) since last year.”

The 6-foot-8 versatile forward is a capable shot-maker. He is also a solid athlete who is a good rebounder on both ends of the floor. Anderson has the ability to play both forward positions.

The Lakeland (FL) native had a solid 2018 AAU season with Team Knight, where he produced nearly 10 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.

Anderson held offers from seven high-major programs overall. He was slated to visit Minnesota and Georgia later this month. Xavier was also in the mix.

Anderson joins three-star wing Marcedus Leach as members of Prohm’s 2019 recruiting class. Leach, who was also on ISU’s campus this past weekend, made his pledge to the Cyclones on July 25.

Iowa State projects to have 12 players on its roster for the 2019-20 campaign. This includes current redshirt senior point guard Prentiss Nixon along with Anderson and Leach. Nixon is sitting out this upcoming season due to NCAA transfer rules.

If everything stays the same, the Cyclones will have one scholarship remaining for next year. The Cyclones have 10 open scholarships to 2019 prospects. Their biggest needs for the 2019 season are a shooting guard and a big.

ISU is reportedly still in the mix for combo guards PJ Fuller and  KyKy Tandy as well as center Kai Jones. Fuller and Tandy are consensus 100 prospects in the class.

Cyclones 2020 and 2021 recruiting class

Iowa State does not have any commitments from the class of 2020, although the Cyclones does currently have 14 open offers to prospects from that class. Nine of those 2020 scholarship offers are to guards, three are to small forwards and two to centers.

2020 top-25 prospects BJ Boston and Jalen Sugg along with consensus four-star guard Ethan Morton are a few recruits that ISU is interested in. The Cyclones are also pursuing top-15 big man N’Faly Dante and 6-foot-10 center Xavier Foster.

ISU has two scholarship offers on the table to 2021 prospects after making an overture to Hunter Sallis (Omaha, NE) on Sept. 1. Sallis was on an unofficial visit to Ames when he received the offer.

ISU is the fourth school to offer the 6-foot-3 guard. Drake was the first DI program to make an overture to Sallis on May 1. Sallis also holds offers from Ole Miss and Creighton.

Sallis slated to unofficially visit Nebraska on Sept.8. He is expected to visit Ole Miss and Creighton in the future. As a freshman, Sallis averaged 4.3 points along with 1.0 assists and 1.0 rebounds in 22 games at Millard  North High.
