Indiana Basketball: 5 keys for a successful 2018-19 season
Offensive firepower
Indiana basketball had one of the weakest overall offenses in the Big Ten last season. Statistically, the Hoosiers ranked poorly in just about every major offensive category: points per game (71.9, 229th), field goal percentage (45.6%, 129th), 3-point percentage (32.2%, 315th), and free throw percentage (65.7%, 333rd). Additionally, the team only returns one major offensive contributor from last season in Juwan Morgan.
Of course, Morgan is a top-notch offensive player but he cannot do it alone. This is why the performances of freshman Romeo Langford and sophomore De’Ron Davis will be so important. Langford, a top-10 recruit in the 2018 class, is a polished offensive player who can fill up the basket from just about anywhere on the floor. In addition to Morgan, who averaged 16.5 points per game last season, Langford should be an elite scorer in the Big Ten.
Davis, on the other hand, is returning from an injury and projects as a quality offensive option inside. Even though he only played 18.8 minutes per game last season in 15 contests, he posted 9.6 points per game on 61.5% shooting from the floor. He might not be a high-volume scorer but he can be a functional offensive player.
