After several major losses this offseason, West Virginia basketball is in an uncharted territory. What will be some major keys to success this year?

West Virginia basketball has been one of the best programs in the country over the last several years. Even though it has been difficult for the program to rack up conference titles because of the presence of Kansas in the Big 12, head coach Bob Huggins and Co. have consistently been near the top of the nation in terms of the AP poll. Additionally, the Mountaineers have reached the NCAA Tournament with regularity and made some noise once there.

Still, the program has a lot of questions heading into this season. Head coach Bob Huggins has been incredibly successful with the Mountaineers over the last several years but the program suffered some serious losses this offseason. Replacing players like Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr. will be incredibly difficult and it is hard to project the team considering so much of their potential relies on the future contributions of newcomers.

Having said this, a great group of returning players along with a talented recruiting class (including JUCO transfers) should result in a strong campaign for the Mountaineers. Head coach Bob Huggins is one of the best in the country and it is certainly reasonable to expect that he can lead this roster to another elite season. If all goes according to plan and the team hits on all of these keys to success, then West Virginia could contend for the Big 12 title.
