After a disappointing end to their promising season last year Florida Gulf Coast lost their coach and five of their top six scorers. Can “DunkCity” pick up the pieces and stay on top of the ASUN?

Last season Florida Gulf Coast was rolling through the ASUN racking up an 11-0 record and seemingly eyeing another NCAA Tournament appearance. Then they lost two of their last three games in the regular season and got blown out in the conference championship game to Lipscomb. They had to settle for the NIT and promptly got beat by Oklahoma State and their season was over before they knew it.

Then the offseason came and their head coach bolted for East Carolina, the second-leading scorer Zach Johnson transferred to Miami and Michael Gilmore transferred back to VCU. They also lost three of their top five scorers to graduation.

FGCU must now get back up after an end to the season that they would like to forget. They started by naming longtime assistant Michael Fly their new head coach. Fly was able to bring in some transfers that could have an immediate impact for the Eagles. Couple that with some good young talent and they hope they can remain near the top of the ASUN.

The Eagles hope to live up to their “DunkCity” nickname and continue to bring excitement to SW Florida and grab the nation’s attention again.

Here’s a full breakdown of the projected starters, key reserves and non-conference schedule, along with where they stand nationally and in the conference as we preview their season.
