Tremont. Waters.

Is there a better sophomore guard in the country than Tremont Waters? Seriously, even though he mostly flew under the radar last season due to the play of other star freshmen (Trae Young, Deandre Ayton, etc.), Waters was an elite player in his first year on campus. A top-50 recruit out of high school, Waters reached star status almost immediately with the Tigers this past season. Despite standing at just 5-foot-11, he will be one of the best all-around guards in the entire nation this season.

For reference, Waters recorded a sensational freshman stat line of 15.9 points (.417/.351/.801), 3.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He was the focal point of the Tigers’ offense for most of last season and seemed to always step up in crunch time. For a freshman to be as poised as Waters was throughout last season…well, that’s rare and needs to be taken note of.

Heading into this season, it is reasonable to expect that Waters will take the next step in his career. For starters, this is due to the fact that he will have a more talented group of players around him on the court this season. This means that some of the scoring burden will be taken off of his shoulders and his efficiency should improve while his playmaking skills will be showcased even more.

Quite simply, I wouldn’t want to be the one that underestimates this point guard.
