3. Big 12

2017 Tournament Teams – (7) Kansas, Kansas State, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, West Virginia, TCU

The top three conferences are so close it is hard to rank them and any one of them has a legitimate case to be considered the best conference in the nation. Kansas has ruled the Big 12 but it looked like it was in serious jeopardy of losing that hold until Texas Tech faltered down the stretch. The Jayhawks are still the cream of the crop in the Big 12 but the other teams are closing in on them.

Jamie Dixon has helped resurrect TCU’s basketball program and Texas and Texas Tech are on the upswing also. Bob Huggins and his press have West Virginia a major force also. If Kansas State and Oklahoma can stay up this could be the best conference by years end. The Wildcats will look to build off their surprising Elite 8 run and the Sooners will need to cover up the loss of Trae Young. But both teams look like they could have bright futures.

Kansas still looks like their only national title contender until proven otherwise, but the other teams provide depth that the conferences behind them are lacking. This is a good conference that most people overlook when talking about basketball because the Jayhawks have ruled it for so long. But don’t sleep on what they can do.
