Big Ten Basketball: Best / Worst case scenarios for each team in 2018-19
By Adam Childs
There are many different scenarios that could happen with Big Ten Basketball this season. What are the best/worst case ones with each team?
The Big Ten is coming off one of their worst regular seasons in recent memory. They were only able to get four teams into the NCAA Tournament (Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and Ohio State). They did get another two into the NIT in Penn St and Nebraska. But the lack of depth in the Big Ten kept Nebraska out of the Big Dance.
They were able to save some face with Penn State winning the NIT and Michigan making it to the National Championship game. The Big Ten, though, is still searching for its first national championship since Michigan State won it way back in 2000. Maryland did win one in 2002 but they were a part of ACC at that time.
Will this be the year that the Big Ten can finally snap that dubious streak or will it reach 19 years. They have a few teams that have the talent to make a run, but can they actually cross that hurdle. First, they must look to improve on their regular season and get more teams into the tournament.
Here we break down what is the best and worst case scenario for each Big Ten team.
(Disclaimer: In a perfect world every team’s best case scenario is a national championship and worst case is finishing in last place in their conference. But that is not realistic so we look at what is each team’s realistic best and worst case scenario in this article.)
