The AP preseason top 25 for NCAA Basketball was released on Monday, yet the final polls rarely look like the preseason version. Which teams are ranked too high? Who is ranked too low?

The new college basketball season is just days away and, in preparation for the new season, the Associated Press released their preseason top 25 rankings.

There are many familiar faces that will start the year on top as Kansas comes in at No. 1, marking the third time the Jayhawks have held that distinction. Though the Jayhawks failed to make the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament in either of the first two instances, head coach Bill Self told the AP that his team is welcoming the ranking.

"“It’s definitely a spot we welcome and certainly know the goal is to be playing to that ranking by when it counts the most. With the young players, we know it’s going to take some time before we’re anywhere close to where we’re going to be, but I do like this team and I think we have a chance to be very good.”"

Kentucky, Gonzaga, Duke, and Virginia round out the top five while Tennessee, Nevada, North Carolina, Villanova, and Michigan State also find themselves in the top 10.

Of course, preseason polls don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things but are an excellent representation of the expectations facing a given team. But, as we all know, sports never go according to script – especially college basketball.

Some highly ranked teams are going to struggle much more than expected, while other teams will inevitably overachieve and outplay their preseason ranking. Who will those teams be?

Here are three teams that are the most overrated and three teams that are the most underrated in this season’s inaugural top 25 rankings.
