Rutgers Basketball: 2018-19 season preview for the Scarlet Knights
Starting lineup
Geo Baker
Geo Baker was a revelation during his freshman season. He averaged 10.8 games per game, shooting .361 from 3-point range. With Sanders off to the pros, Baker is in line to pick up a majority of the scoring load for Rutgers.
Issa Thiam
The Senegal native will also need to step into a bigger role during his junior year. Last season, Issa Thiam averaged 7.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. At 6-foot-9, however, he’ll need to make more of an impact in the defensive paint; he averaged just 0.2 blocks per game during his sophomore campaign.
Eugene Omoruyi
The junior center averaged over 20 minutes a game last season. Eugene Omoruyi has shown promise in the paint, averaging 7.9 points and 5.0 rebounds, in addition to 0.8 blocks per contest. Don’t count on him to space the floor, though, as he has yet to make a 3-pointer in his college career.
Shaquille Doorson
Shaquille Doorson has the distinction as the lone senior on Rutgers’ roster. The 7-foot big man averaged more rebounds (2.9) than points (1.8) per game last season.
Montez Mathis
Montez Mathis is the consensus top recruit in the Scarlet Knights’ incoming class. The four-star guard has “star” written all over him, with the chance to match and surpass the production Sanders brought to Rutgers. If he doesn’t start immediately, it won’t take him long to force Pikiell to put him in the lineup.
