It can only get better for Kentucky…

Kentucky was absolutely blown out by Duke in the season opener. There is simply no better way to put it. They were eviscerated on both ends of the floor and it was ugly seemingly from the opening tip. Yet having said this, UK might have gotten their one abysmal performance already out of the way for the rest of the season. Even though fans might be upset now, this game likely won’t mean much by the time March rolls around.

So, with the rest of the season ahead, it would be a mistake to lose hope now. The Wildcats still have a ton of talent on the roster and there are bound to be moments of learning. And while getting dominated on the national stage may hurt the confidence of the team, the talent is there for UK to be a national title contender still. So, having said this, it is time for the young ‘Cats to learn from their struggles against Duke and come back a better team.

Considering there does not seem to be another major challenge on the schedule until UNC-Greensboro on Dec. 1, Coach Cal and Co. will have almost an entire month to sort out the kinks. This means there will be plenty of playing time for just about everyone on the roster and position battles will be won and lost during this period of time. Kentucky still has plenty of growing to do but let’s not count them out just yet.

Remember, this is Kentucky we are talking about. They may have been overrated in the preseason polls but it is too early to draw any conclusions about who they might be in two weeks let along four months.
