Providence and Wichita State have been two of the most consistent programs in the nation in recent years. Who will start the new season with a win?

A new season is upon us. After months of preparation, teams are finally taking the court for the new college basketball season. And while there are many extremely highly-anticipated games throughout the opening week of the new year, one of the more underrated matchups actually comes between two of the more consistent programs in the nation. Providence and Wichita State have each made the NCAA Tournament in at least five consecutive seasons and their early-season meeting should not be underestimated.

Even though both programs lost their significant amounts of talent his offseason, it would be a mistake to believe that either one looks poised for a poor year. And yes, that means that I believe Wichita State, who lost seemingly their entire rotation, should still be in for a decent season. Quite simply, these programs just always seem to succeed regardless of talent lost. So, even if 2018-19 ends up being a down season for either team, you can expect that they will be competitive throughout the year and potentially compete for NCAA Tournament bids.

With this being said, this matchup between the Shockers and the Friars should be a good one. For those wondering, here is the information for following/watching this contest:

  • Who: Wichita State Shockers vs. Providence Friars
  • Where: Alumni Hall in Annapolis, MD
  • When: Friday, Nov. 9 at 6:00 p.m. ET

Now, with that covered, let’s dive into three of the biggest storylines heading into this game.
