NCAA Basketball Power Rankings: Duke rises, newcomers snag spots
The opening week of the NCAA basketball season featured many cupcake matchups but also some superb games. How do this week’s power rankings shake out?
One week of the NCAA basketball season. After months of waiting, the new campaign has finally started and it is sure fun to watch the unpredictability of college basketball. And while the opening week may have been filled with cupcake matchups for power conference teams, there were also several upsets or high-quality games. Of course, Duke’s performance against Kentucky in the Champions Classic has been the top headline so far but there have been many more as well.
As mentioned in the preseason, I will be breaking down my top-25+ power rankings every single week throughout the season. Each team will receive its own full breakdown based on their performances over the course of the last week and the projections for the coming games.
Also, in addition to just ranking my top-25, I also select 10 teams each week that are most intriguing to me regarding who might be next to join the actual top-25. This list is not all-encompassing of the teams I consider for a given week but analyzes some that are worthy of discussion.
