Florida State looks to continue their hot start to the season as Canisius rolls into town for the first leg of the AdvoCare Invitational.

TV schedule: Monday, November 19, 7:00 PM ET, ACCNE

Location: Donald L. Tucker Center, Tallahassee, Florida

Florida State has eased in to a season in which expectations are to match their Elite Eight run from a year ago.

Odds are high that the Seminoles will continue their undefeated start to the year when the Canisius Golden Griffins come to town.

The Seminoles racked up two convincing victories to start the season, a crushing blow to the rival Florida Gators and a double-digit road win at Tulane. Three players are averaging double-figures in scoring, while Terance Mann is just half a rebound shy of averaging a double-double.

Meanwhile, the one thing people need to learn about Canisius is what a Golden Griffin is. According to the school’s athletic department (via Wikipedia), it’s a “mythical creature of supposed gigantic size that has the head, forelegs and wings of an eagle and the hindquarters, tail and ears of a lion.” So that’s something.

(Also, the athletic director’s name is Bill Maher. This school is awesome.)

As for the Golden Griffins on the court, the start of the season has been a mixed bag. They won at Bucknell to start the season, but they faltered in their home opener against Albany.

Sophomore Takal Molson has been one of biggest revelations in the MAAC, albeit in a small sample size. He matched his career-high with 25 points in the opener, then followed it up with another 24 points in the second game. His 24.5 points per game lead the conference.

Florida State is one of three ranked opponents on Canisius’ schedule, along with the reeling Villanova Wildcats and upstart Buffalo Bulls. The Seminoles shouldn’t necessarily look past the Golden Griffins – Molson can score with the best of them.

But it would be understandable if Leonard Hamilton wanted to start preparing for the UAB Blazers in the quarterfinals of the AdvoCare Invitational later in the week.
