Can Villanova fix their issues?

The short answer? Yes, they can. It’s still just four games into the season and there’s a lot of time to turn things around.

The long answer? Some of their issues will eventually be ironed out in time. Turnovers are bound to decrease as this roster with so many new pieces becomes more comfortable playing together and as they truly identify who their starting point guard is.

Their three-point shooting won’t stay this bad, either. While they’re not at the level of year’s past, this team has better individual shooters than they’ve shown thus far. And taking smarter shots will help that.

However, another big takeaway out of these early games is that Villanova does not have as much talent as we thought they did, and that has made their ceiling considerably lower than it has been. They don’t have a lot of speed, which hurts them defensively and has kept them from being able to get into the lane.

Villanova is not going to run away with the Big East as we thought – but they’re still one of the better teams in the conference (which may be an indictment of the conference as a whole this year, but that’s another topic for another time) and will improve as the season goes on.
